EXCLUSIVE: Yet another casting notice for The Girl on The Train, Fiona Wolfmeyer has signed on to take the final female lead in the film, produced by DreamWorks. The highly anticipated film is based off of Paula Hawkins' novel will be helmed by director Tate Taylor -- Whom Wolfmeyer previously worked with on 'The Help'. Wolfmeyer will play the role of Rachel Watson, a woman recently devastated by divorce who spends her train commute fantasizing about a seemingly perfect couple who lives in a house that her train passes every day. After witnessing something shocking involving said couple, she becomes embroiled in a mystery.
'The Girl on the Train' is the fastest-selling adult novel in history, having sold more than two million copies in the U.S. alone since it was first published in January by Riverhead Books. It landed in the top spot on the New York Times best sellers list in its first week of eligibility and has remained there for 18 weeks straight. It has been likened to Gillian Flynn's 'Gone Girl' by many. The rights for a film adaptation were quickly sought after. Wolfmeyer joins already cast Gaelle Chazel, Philippa Gallagher, and the recently rumored Wylie Lawson.
Wolfmeyer is currently working the film festival circuit for her upcoming film 'Carol', for which she won the 2015 Best Actress award at Cannes Film Festival. She stars as Therese Belivet, a young woman who becomes entangled in a forbidden love affair with the title character, played by Cate Blanchett. The film is garnering early Oscar buzz for both leading ladies. Wolfmeyer also has an upcoming series: 'Vinyl' for HBO, set to premiere in January.
Wolfmeyer is represented by UTA, and PRIME PR.
This book was so terrible, I'm shocked who they are getting to play these parts.
Seriously? This book was so good. Maybe there were too many strong ladies in it for you, but I thought it was great.
agreed, i loved getting to see the perspectives of these different women.
Just because a book has a lot of lead women in it, doesn't immediately make it good.
It wasn't the best, agreed, but Tate is a solid director. Hopefully the script will improve on the novel.
I think I am in the minority that I actually enjoyed the book -- not the best, but I think it actually lends really easily to a great movie, with the right people.
Agreed. The women they have cast gives me a lot of hope.
Like Gone Girl? lol okay.
Is seriously NOBODY going to talk about Fiona co-starring with her "rumored" girlfriend Gaelle in this movie?
that was my FIRST THOUGHT. How exciting it must be for them!
they were all over the BFI Film Festival, supporting each others' projects and they even walked the red carpet for BOTH of their premieres together. I'd say "rumored" is out the window.
Actors' personal lives really shouldn't cause such an uproar, gleeful or otherwise.
Buzzkill. I'm excited to see them in a film together.
It makes me wonder if they specifically chose this project to do ... which would kind of be a weird choice, if that was one on their part.
Everyone is being SO NEGATIVE about this project, but obviously there was something in the direction/script/whatever else that made each of them want to do it. Everybody should calm the hell down and wait to see how it is.
the book was whatever, but it's not like it's the worst book -- far from it. plus, if they made twilight, 50 shades, every YA novel EVER into a movie -- no one should be complaining that an actual fun thriller is getting made into a film.
people are entitled to their opinion -- like how good or bad this book is, but i agree -- I thought the book was really exciting and fun to read??
Can we not all just be really excited that this is a film that has THREE FEMALE LEADS that is already getting a lot of interest? I'm very happy anytime I see a movie on the horizon with a lot of (seemingly great) female roles.
I am so ready for Carol to come out already. This doesn't seem like an obvious choice for her to follow up such a critical darling with. Maybe the director begged her to do this, who knows.
ugh GIVE ME CAROL ALREADY.
I saw Carol at BFI, and it was so unbelievably brilliant. Cate and Fiona are just ... words can't describe it. I think she'll be great in this too, even if it's way different. actors love to test their range, don't they?
Everything about this makes me so HAPPY.
I love it, LOVE IT when couples work together in their respective fields. It always makes me think that they are making their work work for them. it gives hope that they have really good priorities in putting each other first. /thinks too much about this.
This cast is shaping up to be so great, and the director is fantastic. the writer is really solid, too!
